SMA announce the Sunny Island X

SMA have announced the newest addition to the Sunny Island range of battery inverters, the Sunny Island X. Available in 30kW or 50kW variants, the Sunny Island X can be used in both on-grid and off-grid installations.

Built on the proven reliability of the Sunny Highpower platform, the Sunny Island X simplifies system design by providing a scalable and standardised solution for systems from 30kW to 1000kW+. German manufacturing quality and a 10 year warranty mean the Sunny Island X offers peace of mind for the most critical applications.

Initially, off-grid and backup systems will require the use of the SMA Hybrid Controller and Sunny Island X Connection Box so only systems over 300kW will make economic sense; however, a next generation Multicluster Box is being developed for systems below 300kW, this is expected to be available in 2026.

On-grid systems without backup do not require the SMA Hybrid Controller and Sunny Island X Connection Box.

The Sunny Island X is compatible with a wide range of batteries, including the recently announced BYD Battery-Max Lite.
